Don't Be A People Pleaser

As much as we all want people to like us, we have to face the fact that we really can't please everyone! There will always be someone that for whatever reason, our very presence irritates them! We have to move beyond the naive expectation that if we are nice, people will treat us right. The fact is: they may . . . OR . . . they may not! God doesn't want us to live our lives trying to please other people. But He does want us to live for Him and become more like Him! In other words, don't be a "people-pleaser," be a "Jesus-Pleaser!" We can't control the behavior of others but what we can do. . . is control our own behavior! We can be kind, even when others are not. We can smile when frowned at, and be gracious in the most trying situation, choosing not to retaliate or respond in anger. This is only possible with God's help. We can claim Phil 4:13, and trust that God WILL give us the strength to respond in a Christ-like way, and we can ask Him to fill our hearts with love for everyone – including our enemies! Text: 1 John 4:19, Eph 5:1-2, Col 3:12-14

1 John 4:19 NKJV - "19 We love Him because He first loved us."

Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV - "1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma."

Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV - "12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection."
